By Faith, We Understand…

It is by faith we understand that the whole world was made by God’s command. This means that what we see was made by something that cannot be seen — Hebrew 11:3, International Children’s Bible

The first thing that faith in Christ Jesus does for you is to understand the things of God. By that faith, you realise that you are a sinner in need of redemption and as such you need a saviour. Against the backdrop that faith is supposed to be used to “get and claim things”, the believer needs to know that there is a whole lot to faith than that. When that is not in place, the inevitable happens — the faith is now used for banal and carnal things of no eternal value.

There is no other way to understand the workings of God except with the eyes of faith. Because the wisdom of God is foolishness to them that want to use the natural mind to decipher it. Does it make sense to give, when you have not satisfied the longings of your heart? Does it make sense to let go and walk away when you could easily have won? BUT by faith, we understand that vengeance of the Lord. As Paul will say “Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm, but the Lord will judge him for what he has done”. That is the end. No court. No cursing. No cussing. By faith, we leave things in God’s hands.

Faith is used in the life of the believer, first, to understand the workings of God. By faith we know how God thinks, what He loves, His expectations from us — His beloved children — begotten in Christ Jesus. Patience is by faith. Goodness is by faith. Living an altruistic life is by faith. A life that is not powered by faith, in the Christian race, is bound to be frustrated because there are things that will happen and you will have no tangible explanation for them. By faith, we endure hardness as a true soldier of Jesus Christ. By faith, we face the ridicule of not being “cool” and not joining the ways of the world. This is because by faith we know, that God is a rewarder of them that diligently serve Him. And even when He does not seemingly reward, we will abide by His way. Because we do not want to be in place or process that God is not involved. As the writer of Hebrew noted, “It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God”.

By Faith we understand, that we cannot pay evil for evil.
By Faith we understand, that is is a terrible thing to fall into the hand of God.
By Faith we understand, that no matter what happens, the Lord is my shepherd.

Faith makes sense to the man that is believing God. When others are seeing the way to make it in life that displeases God, he understands that by faith, it is better to be poor and wait on God until when you have what it takes to handle success.

By faith, we understand that pre-marital sex is the ancestor of adultery and since both offend God, we detest them and stay away. By faith, we understand that Proverbs 21:30 is true. It says “There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD”.

Any wisdom no matter how mainstream or glamourous it is, if it is against God, I will run away from it.

I don’t want to be “woke” when God’s word is against my “wokeness”. I will leave my “wokeness” at the feet of Jesus and follow His word even when it does not make sense to me. Why? Because by faith I understand, that in the words of Jesus, as Peter told us, are eternal life (John 6:63, 68)

By faith I understand, that God’s word says that it is not good for a man to be alone. As such when I am married I will do my best to live with my wife and family. Yes the economy is tough and most times, we may have to live apart but I will resist it because God prefers us to be together to raise the children together. It is a tough decision but as a person of faith, I trust the process. You cannot go against God’s word and expect a great outcome.

By faith I understand, that I cannot envy the wicked (Psalm 37:1) no matter how prosperous they are. I will keep in the way of the Lord and when my time comes righteousness will exalt me. And I may never even by exalted but I will stay on God’s lane.

Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity- Psalms 37:1

By faith, I will not stand in the way of sinners or seat with scorners (Psalm 1). This is because I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I watch my friendships because evil communication corrupts good manners. As such when God says something is bad, I do not argue. He that defines “bad” know what is bad. And when He says something is good, I strive for it.

We can go on and go….because “The Just Shall Live By Faith”.
