Let My Life Count
Proverbs 30:7–9
Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:_
Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
These are the things I have asked of the Lord,
Remove far from me vanity and lies:
Take dust and shadows away from me.
May mirages not be my reality,
So that I will not chase the wind.
May I not believe a lie.
May I not put my trust in that which perishes.
May the philosophies of men not distract me.
May the trends of the day not consume me.
May I not seek that which I think will bring me fame and honour,
And drive me far from the eternal God.
Let me not be self-seeking.
Let the words of men not mean much to me;
For they do not mean much where eternal things are ranked.
Let me not be self-absorbed and forget the dictates of God.
May God’s word direct my paths.
Give me what it takes,
To enjoy both the palace and the desert.
May I not desire the desert when I am meant to be in the palace.
Let me not want the palace when I am supposed to be in the desert.
May I be where your mercy and grace are not far from me.
Let the want of “more” not afflict me.
The leanness of soul shall not be my portion.
May I not desire that which You have not given me.
Show me the ways and boundaries of life,
That I may walk in them.
Bring me contentment,
So that I may be satisfied with the things you have given me,
Show me the things to do and those not to do,
That will bring you honour and worship.
For both a servant and a son, I am.
Give me the courage and grace,
To obey thy word and thy nodding,
For sometimes, it is not intuitive to do.
Infuse me with boldness,
To do thy will, Oh Lord.
May my quest be simple and clear,
Let it be stated as such “What can I do to please the Lord?”
For my Lord has been good to me and I cannot tell it all.
He has given me all I want — life, food, raiment and people.
What else can a man ask for?
When I am done with this life
And it is time to be with my Lord in glory.
Let me, like the patriarch of faith, know the time.
That I may instruct the people around me as they did.
Finally, let it be said, “His life made it easy for others to believe in Jesus”.

This came to me while in church on 22nd September 2024. May the good Lord take the glory for all His works. Amen.
