Tiger Woods Has A Coach
Golf is an individual game and Tiger Woods needs no introduction. Talk about his statistics and wins and what makes him stand out, you might think of him as a self-made man. Coached by his father, Tiger Woods was introduced to golf before the age of two. He became a child prodigy in golf, perhaps the most precocious young golfer in history. Tiger learned golf first on the U.S. military courses in southern California. His father did what he could for him and then got professional coaches to take it from there.
Golf is an individual sport except for the few times people are paired in a team to play. Football, Volleyball, Basketball etc are team sports. This means more than one person is on the team. For sports like tennis, boxing and golf, you are the team. You are the one facing the music. You sink or you swim. The outcomes are upon you.
It is tempting to think of the folks that play individual sports as a one-person team. They seem not to need anyone. It all depends on their talents, skills and abilities. This is what it seems. But it is not so.
Tiger Woods and the likes of Serena Williams, Anthony Joshua, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal are folks that compete in individual sports. On the other side of things, they are surrounded by trainers, different types of coaches, nutritionists, psychologists etc. These people are essential to those teams. The champions you see on the various fields of plays are moulded by these A-list teams.
Teamwork makes the dream work. Tiger is an individual player but he needs a team around him. It is not just any type of team but folks with the A-game. The team has to work. Everyone in that team supplies value at the right time and at the right dose. Different folks bring different things to the table.
How does this apply to me and you?
You need a team…there is no self-made wo/man. You needed your parents to be here. People cared for you in your first five years when you were oblivious of what was happening around you. Teachers (your first coaches) taught you and brought you to speed with life and academics. Then you made friends when you were old enough to choose. Then professional colleagues came along.
So while you might be that entrepreneur that has pioneered an industry or started a business that headlines, remember that you need a team to bring your vision to life.
